Problem #1: “I have no time to eat breakfast!”
Problem #2: “All the fruit I bought is going bad!”
Solution: SMOOTHIE BAGS
While working at David’s Bridal in Boston, my commute each way was 45 minutes. I was also in the middle of training for a marathon and always hungry. Unfortunately, I never seemed to find the time to make a proper breakfast before leaving for work! I just wished I could use those 45 minutes to eat breakfast. As you may or may not know, eating and driving is NOT easy (or safe), and most of the time you’ll end up with either stains on you or your car seat. These smoothie bags were a life-saver! All I had to do was pop a bag out of the freezer, empty contents into a blender, add almond milk, blend and run out the door!
Although there is a bit of up-front prep work, it will be completely worth it. Put some music or a TV show on and start bagging. Before you know it, you’ll have a freezer full of instant breakfasts!
What you’ll need:
- Ziplock sandwich bags
- Fruits & veggies
- Spill-proof bottle
That’s it! You can use any combination of your fruits and veggies for your smoothies, but I will give you some suggestions below to get you started. You’ll find out what you like and don’t like and can make adjustments when you make your next batch (this is why I never make smoothies with lime in them anymore…).
The possibilities are truly endless, but next time you head to the store, start with these items and try a few of my combinations below!
- Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) fresh OR frozen
- Green apples

Whether they allow you extra sleep, more time in the shower or the chance to start your day with a nutritious meal, I hope they are as much of a life saver for you as they were for me! P.S. Try saying “berry banavocucumber” 10x fast!
What are your favorite smoothie combos??
