It looks like a cross between a treadmill and a tank… and it’s called a Woodway. Have you seen one at your gym?
Chances are if you have, you haven’t used it. It’s easy to get stuck in a routine of our normal exercise machines and not venture out to try new things. Trust me, this ones worth the break in your routine!
The belt of a Woodway is made of a much softer material than a treadmill to eliminate the harmful shock to connective tissue while not changing proper biomechanics. It was designed to mimic the feel of running outdoors and to provide the user with a dynamic, low impact workout every time. You’ll notice the different right away!
Try this interval workout on the Woodway next time you’re at the gym:
Beginners: Alternate between a light jog and a walk at a 1:3 ratio of effort to recovery (ex. jog for 30 seconds, walk for 90 seconds), until you can gradually decrease the ratio to 1:2, and eventually 1:1.
Intermediate: Alternate between a run and a light jog at a 1:3 ratio of effort to recovery (ex. run for 30 seconds, jog for 90 seconds), until you can gradually decrease the ratio to 1:2, and eventually 1:1.
Advanced: Alternate between a run and a sprint at a 1:3 ratio of effort to recovery (ex. sprint for 30 seconds, run for 90 seconds), until you can gradually decrease the ratio to 1:2, and eventually 1:1.
Don’t forget to warm up (easy 5-10 minute walk/run) and stretch when you’re done.
